When my boyfriend came over to visit, he took lots of photos of me. While most of them were great, I was really disturbed by one photo – not because it was bad, but because I saw how my hair looked like from the back. It was too long, and my curls were all over the place, it was terrible.
Right then and there, I decided that I needed a haircut. Soon.
There are certainly lots of hair salons in Taipei to choose from but I was just very picky on which one to go to, especially since most salons I’ve been to don’t have stylists that speak English. I really care about my hair so much so I felt like I couldn’t just risk my hair to my bad Chinese skills – the stylist and I might misunderstand one another and I might end up with a haircut that I would have to live with for several months before being able to style it again. But then again, I felt like having my haircut done for the first time in Taipei would be a great experience. I asked around for salons where people spoke English but they seemed to be located in fancier districts with higher prices as well, and it seems like only foreigners go there. I wanted to go where the locals go.
So, the easiest solution was to consult my Taiwanese friends, and last weekend one of my friends went with me to the salon she frequents. She was very helpful because she not only translated for me, she also made sure I was going to get the look I wanted.
Anyway, long story short, my hair went from this…
It looks completely different from my old hairstyle, which is a good thing. It’s my first time to have my hair colored and it’s not too bad, I actually like it. Now that I think about it, this is also my first time to rock short hair after a long time – the last time I remember having short hair was when I was in second grade! While the stylists were doing their thing, I was really scared about what was going to happen but I was really pleased when I saw the result! I am so happy that I took this risk to change my hairstyle and I totally love my new look. Just in time for New Year!
Now I am excited to see how my friends back home would react when they see me with this!
