New hair!

When my boyfriend came over to visit, he took lots of photos of me. While most of them were great, I was really disturbed by one photo – not because it was bad, but because I saw how my hair looked like from the back. It was too long, and my curls were all over the place, it was terrible.

Right then and there, I decided that I needed a haircut. Soon.

There are certainly lots of hair salons in Taipei to choose from butΒ I was just very picky on which one to go to, especially since most salons I’ve been to don’t have stylists that speak English. I really care about my hair so much so I felt like I couldn’t just risk my hair to my bad Chinese skills – the stylist and I might misunderstand one another and I might end up with a haircut that I would have to live with for several months before being able to style it again. But then again, I felt like having my haircut done for the first time in Taipei would be a great experience. I asked around for salons where people spoke English but they seemed to be located in fancier districts with higher prices as well, and it seems like only foreigners go there. I wanted to go where the locals go.

So, the easiest solution was to consult my Taiwanese friends, and last weekend one of my friends went with me to the salon she frequents. She was very helpful because she not only translated for me, she also made sure I was going to get the look I wanted.

Anyway, long story short,Β my hair went from this…

Long hair!

To this!

Short hair!

It looks completely different from my old hairstyle, which is a good thing. It’s my first time to have my hair colored and it’s not too bad, I actually like it. Now that I think about it, this is also my first time to rock short hair after a long time – the last time I remember having short hair was when I was in second grade! While the stylists were doing their thing, I was really scared about what was going to happen but I was really pleased when I saw the result! I am so happy that I took this risk to change my hairstyleΒ and I totally love my new look. Just in time for New Year!

Now I am excited to see how my friends back home would react when they see me with this!

  1. I also care about my hair so so so much that only my mom touches my hair. But I never had the courage to cut my hair as short as your current hair. I’m envious of the curls. Is it natural or did you perm it? πŸ˜€

    1. Hi Kate! πŸ™‚

I had my hair permed! πŸ™‚ My hair is naturally straight but it’s kinda weird because when it grows out, it turns wavy… In a bad way. That’s why I always have my hair permed in order to fix its appearance lol!

  2. I love your new hair! Do you have natural curls like that? I also considered doing my hair in a similar style because it’s not a style I’ve ever dared to try, but from experiences I’m not sure how I’d look with a short perm. πŸ˜›

Also I’m scared of looking at the back of my hair haha … because I know I’m going to dislike it, HAHA! πŸ™‚

  3. You’re rocking that new haircut and perm! It suits you really well. It’s good to have changes with our hair! Makes me want to do something different with my own hair πŸ˜€

  4. Ah Claudine!!!! I love your hair! It really suits you and is a really awesome change for the new year. πŸ™‚ I know what you mean about looking at photos and being shocked about something. I had the same thing happen to me during my holiday in Spain when I looked at the photos I was shocked! It’s actually one of the motivating factors of me exercising! πŸ˜›

I had short hair throughout 2015 and it was my first time rocking short hair but I definitely prefer long hair on myself because it’s less maintenance for me personally! I love your curls btw! Is it a perm?

  5. Not a first time visitor but one of my goals is to actively comment on the blogs I visit, aha.

I love your new hair! Communication is definitely important when someone else is cutting your hair for you, so it’s nice that you had a friend there to translate for you.

    1. Aww, Rezina! Thank you and I hope you enjoyed reading my posts! πŸ˜€

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t dare go into a salon without knowing how to communicate with the stylist. My Chinese is still very bad and I’m not quite sure if it would have worked out well if my friend wasn’t there lol!

  6. I felt the same way when I saw how long my hair was @__@. It’s a good thing that you have a friend come out to help with the translation. Your new hairdo is cute! Glad to hear that you’re pleased with the results. Hope you’ll have a great time with your new hairdo ;).

  7. Love the new haircut! It looks good on you! That was nice of your friend to go with you to translate and make sure there were no miscommunication πŸ™‚ I used to only like long hair, so whenever I got it cut short, it was shocking to my friends and family, haha. (Now I cut it short once or twice a year.) I’m glad you like the result! Happy new year!

    1. Haha me too, the last time I had short hair was when I was still in elementary school. I bet that my friends and family back home would be very surprised to see this! πŸ˜›

  8. So cute!! I love the new hair style! I’ve actually been thinking about cutting my hair, so this inspires me to do that! My hair is fairly similar to yours (maybe a little more curly, definitely more frizzy haha) so my curls too can be all over the place when it’s longer!

It looks so cute on you! And happy new year Claudine!
