My new blogging setup

Wow, I can’t believe that I just hit my 10th(!) blogging anniversary (yes, I do keep track of those things) two days ago. It seems like yesterday when I started my first personal blog, and here I am now on a different platform with my own domain name, but still blogging! And in those years of blogging, I’ve used a lot of different devices, but I think I’ve found my favorite blogging devices to date.

All of this happened because after upgrading my 2009 Macbook’s OS to Yosemite, it became super slow that it’s almost unusable. Some people said that upgrading the RAM would work, but for now I’m still too lazy to try that, and I sure can’t afford a new laptop.

I thought of using my tablet as an alternative since it had a WordPress app, but if there’s one thing you must know about me, I hate touchscreen keyboards. Everything else about a touchscreen device is nice, but the keyboards are a real pain. I’ve been using touchscreen devices for years but I never really had any fondness for their keyboards. So what I did was pair my tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard and tried to type away. And you know, I haven’t touched my laptop ever since.

This setup works wonders for me.

I can't wait to fill up that blank screen.

But of course, I can’t always carry a Bluetooth keyboard with me. Sometimes I want to write things down before I forget, so I use my Blackberry Passport to write entries on-the-go. You don’t see this everywhere, but I love its combination of a touchscreen and a keyboard, it’s literally the perfect phone for me right now. It can run the WordPress Android app too, which is a big bonus. And I love the long battery life! My past few entries were actually written entirely with the Passport.

It looks wide, but it's actually very comfortable to hold.

That keyboard is to die for!

I will still try to get my laptop fixed or replace it with a new one if I can afford it. But for now, these set-ups work for me and I love them!

  1. Congrats on your 10th anniversary! I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve blogged. I think I have to go back and look at it. Seriously. Lol Anyhow, hey, we all find ways of things that work, you know? For now, keep rocking it and t hen later on when it gets better, you’ll find a better way to write your entries.

  2. Yay! 10 years! It’s been long. I have reviewed my blogging history since high school days. lol. Probably I’ve been blogging almost the same years as you are.

Cool BB. I got Bold 9790 which is type and touch as well but yours is better because it has bigger screen. I hope you’d fix your laptop soon! πŸ™‚

  3. Wow!! 10 years is so long and you’ve been so dedicated! Do you have any of your old work? I always laugh when I go through old posts/content because of how terrible everything is, haha. πŸ˜‰

Ugh, I can’t stand typing on a touchscreen keyboard either. I love my tablet, but I don’t do much typing on it! I need the feel of a real keyboard. I always think about getting a wireless keyboard for my tablet, but I can’t justify it when I have a fine laptop. Maybe someday! And I acutally really like that Blackberry. I’m due for an upgrade soon and I’ve been leaning towards an iPhone, but as I mentioned before, I like a real keyboard. Hmmm

    1. I do have some of my old blog posts, but they’re carefully hidden in the Internet Archives. Lol! I actually find my old posts very funny too, and sometimes I can’t believe I wrote those things. XD Well, I was 11 then so I think that’s understandable :))

The new BlackBerry phones are actually very nice, and they run most Android apps without any problem too. And of course typing is a joy on their keyboards πŸ˜€

  4. Oh, I do hope you get your laptop fixed soon! But that tablet/blue tooth keyboard setup looks sweet! I actually like that.

I’ve never heard of the passport before. I fear as though, I maybe lagging in keeping up to date with technology.

  5. Wow. That’s a nice setup. I am actually thinking of ways to encourage myself to blog more. There’s so many things I want to blog about but I don’t like to blog from my mobile… I’m thinking of getting a macbook air but that is too expensive. Maybe i should get an ipad air and a bluetooth keyboard like you!

  6. Wow, 10 years is a long time! This makes me think back to my first blog, and man, I’ve been doing it for over 10 years too.

That’s too bad that your Macbook became that slow. I still haven’t upgraded mine to Yosemite. When I upgraded to Mavericks, I ran into so many problems that I’m afraid to upgrade again, especially when one of my coworkers had issues with Yosemite.

I’m not a fan of touchscreen keyboards either. I’ve been thinking about getting a keyboard for my iPad so that it’s easier to travel with instead of packing a laptop. That’s great that you found a set-up that works for you! It sounds handy to write blog entries on the go πŸ™‚
