First job!

After my tonsillectomy, I never really got to post updates of my recovery because I got so busy with other things. Anyway, I recovered fairly quickly as compared to the other people I talked to who had the same procedure, and I got to talk and eat solid food at day 5. Woo! Haha anyway, there are soooo many things that happened to me in the past month, and one of them is getting my first job!

We studied about my employer (it’s a large American investment bank) in our Investment Banking class at university and I knew I wanted to be a part of this organization in one way or another. So two weeks after I came home from my vacation, I applied in the company as a walk-in applicant. I seriously felt that I didn’t have the chops to get in, especially because it’s a really large bank and I was just a fresh graduate at the time. But I went through with it anyway, because I knew I just had to try.

On the day of my application, I had tonsillitis (this was before my surgery) and could not talk. It turns out that I would be interviewed on that day too, so I was so worried! But I breezed through the interview, although I had a little blunder at the start because I accidentally blurted out a few Tagalog words when everyone was speaking in straight English. Oh well, what can I do? It’s funny though because I saw the interviewer again on the operations floor and told me that I can speak in our native language now and there’s no need to be so formal. Lol!

I am actually liking my job so far, it’s everything I pictured it to be. I also like my shift because it’s in the morning and it’s the regular office hours, unlike my friends who are in the night shift. I don’t get to do as much things as the others yet because I’m new, but I think I’ll be learning everything soon enough as long as I work hard. I’m actually excited about being able to do everything on my own and contribute more to the team. I’m feeling good about this job and I hope I do well!

  1. Congrats on the job.. that’s awesome!! The regular shift is so much better than night, too. Lucky you!

Glad you were able to recover rather quickly from your surgery. I was having trouble with my wisdom teeth and my dentist recommended to get all four removed but they aren’t bothering me as of right now so I’m holding off, lol. I can’t imagine not talking or eating solids for so long.

  2. Aw, I am so happy for you!! Happy that you are recovering so much faster than others and for your first job! I would be a nervous wreck after having surgery and not being able to talk AND interviewing. Geesh, I am impressed. 🙂 I am always excited to get to learn everything so I can truly begin to contribute. Best of luck as you continue to learn and continue to be awesome! 😉

  3. First of all, I’m so happy for your quick recovery from your tonsillectomy! Congratulations on getting your first job!! I’m so happy for you!! I always get excited to hear about first jobs! Morning shift is better than night shift, really. Night shifts are tiring and unhealthy and you don’t get to maximize the entire day because you’re sleeping the entire day. Best of luck! 🙂

  4. Whoo! Its good to hear that you recovered from your surgery! 100% recovered?? And congrats on your first job! You sound very excited and I hope you the best!! You also sound super motivated, I hope it lasts a long time! Good luck! 🙂
